So last year I heard about this thing called NaNoWriMo – which is also known as National Novel Writing Month – and really wanted to join in. Basically, NaNoWriMo is like a writing competition where you try to write 50,000 words by the last day of November. There isn’t a prize (except personal satisfaction and a manuscript you will be able to submit to wherever) and you are only really competing against the calendar and the word count, but I thought it was a really cool idea.
In fact, it had inspired me so much that I probably did not sleep for two days after hearing about it because I was scrambling through ideas. But I was already a couple of days or a week late and a lot of things was going on, so I kind of pushed it back for this year. I went back and checked my notes from last year, but there were so many things I wanted to change that I just thought it would be better to just start off with a completely new story. So without further ado, I present “Peculiar You!” Or well, the cover I made for it at least:
Synopsis: Amy Pritchett is an aspiring artist living in the small town of Yiahdel, Missouri. After learning that her university had lost her application and being kicked out of her apartment due to her roommates constant partying, Amy finds herself falling into a state of hopelessness. That is, until her eccentric mother pops back into her life and sends Amy off on a scavenger hunt around the world to complete all sorts of odd tasks. Amy soon finds herself in all sorts of strange predicaments while checking off her mom’s list. Amy even begins to learn new things about herself as she begins to embrace her own weirdness.
To be honest, I actually had a COMPLETELY different idea for what I would write. It was going to be something that was veeery loosely based off (or kind of inspired by) a personal moment in my life, but after making that cover on Canva a spark of ideas began to fill my head. I wanted to think of a good title for it, but I suck at titles so I actually got that from the “Adopt-A-Title” thread on the NaNoWriMo forum and it all started to piece itself together like a puzzle. I haven’t planned hardly anything for Peculiar You!, so I am mostly just going with the flow and letting it come together as I type.
I am going to be posting updates on PY! every week, and I will most likely either be posting chapters here or on Wattpad. As for the other story, I have decided to keep it on the “bookshelf” so that I can plan it out and give it proper attention after NaNoWriMo is over.
Anyways, I am heading off to bed now. I am exhausted and would like to get back to what inspires me most – my dreams.
Oh, and I hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween. I have not really been in much of a celebratory mood lately, so I just stayed home (mostly) and out of costume. We got a ton of candy to give out, but no kids came so now my family and I have been pigging out on all sorts of goodies.
